Information we collect

Comments

When you leave a comment on the Site, we collect:

  • The information entered in the comment form (name, email address, and website)
  • Your IP address
  • Your browser user agent string (to help with spam detection)

An anonymized string (hash) derived from your email address may be shared with the Gravatar service to determine whether you have a profile picture associated with your email. You can review Gravatar’s privacy policy at https://automattic.com/privacy/. Once your comment is approved, your profile picture (if any) will be visible alongside your comment.

Media Uploads

If you upload images to the Site, we recommend avoiding images that contain embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Other visitors may be able to download and extract location information from any images posted on the Site.

Contact Forms

If you contact us through a form on the Site, we will collect the information you submit (such as your name, email address, and message) in order to respond to your inquiry.

Cookies

Cookies are small text files stored on your device. We use cookies for the following purposes:

Comment Cookies

If you leave a comment, you may opt in to having your name, email address, and website saved in cookies for your convenience. These cookies persist for one year so you do not need to re-enter your information when commenting again.

Embedded Content from Other Websites

Some pages on the Site may include embedded content (such as videos, images, or articles) from third-party websites. Embedded content behaves as if you visited those websites directly. Those third parties may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional tracking, and monitor your interaction with the embedded content — including if you are logged in to an account on their platform.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Display and manage comments on the Site
  • Detect and prevent spam
  • Maintain the security and functionality of the Site
  • Respond to inquiries submitted through contact forms
  • Send password reset emails (which include your IP address) when requested

Who We Share Your Data With

We do not sell or rent your personal information to third parties. We may share limited data in the following circumstances:

  • Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
  • Password reset requests include your IP address in the reset email as a security measure.
  • We may share data with service providers who assist in operating the Site, subject to confidentiality obligations.

How Long We Retain Your Data

We retain your data for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes described in this policy:

  • Comments and associated metadata are retained indefinitely to allow us to recognize and auto-approve follow-up comments.
  • Registered user profile data is retained until you request deletion of your account or data.

You may request deletion of your personal data at any time (see “Your Rights” below), except where we are required to retain it for legal, administrative, or security purposes.

Your Rights Over Your Data

As a resident of Canada, you have rights under applicable privacy legislation, including PIPEDA (Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act). These rights include:

  • The right to access the personal information we hold about you
  • The right to correct inaccurate or incomplete information
  • The right to request deletion of your personal information (subject to legal obligations)
  • The right to withdraw consent to the collection or use of your personal information

If you have an account on the Site or have left comments, you may request an export of your personal data or ask that we erase it. To exercise your rights, please contact us through the Site.

Session & Login Cookies

When you visit our login page, a temporary cookie is set to determine whether your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is deleted when you close your browser.

Upon logging in, we set cookies to save your login session and display preferences. Login cookies expire after two days; display preference cookies last one year. Selecting “Remember Me” extends your login cookie to two weeks. Logging out removes all login cookies.

Data Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

The Site may contain links to external websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those sites. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party sites you visit.
